There are seven bridges in total, and each one had its own rank in ancient times. Do you know a rhyme about this bridge?

I know "Jin Shui Bridge, seven arches in a row; Jade Belt River reflects the imperial sky", but why is it called "Golden Water"?

Good question. The water comes from Yuquan Mountain in the west of Beijing. In ancient Chinese culture, the west stands for gold, so people named it the Golden Water River. It was not only a beautiful imperial landscape, but also for fire-protection and water supply for the palace.
The seven bridges followed a strict layout for royal ceremonies in the past. The middle bridge was the Imperial Bridge only for the emperor. The two beside it were for princes. The outer two were for high-ranking officials. The farthest two were for officials below the fourth rank.
Yes! This design shows the ancient idea of respect for rank and symmetrical layout. The golden-water river also forms a precious feng shui pattern to guard the imperial city.
