Tiananmen Square is the largest city center square in the world. It is 880 meters from south to north and 500 meters from east to west. On the east is the National Museum, on the west is the Great Hall of the People, to the south is Zhengyang Gate, and to the north is Tiananmen Gate. In the center of the square stands the Monument to the People's Heroes.
I remember you and Dad brought me here to watch the flag‑raising and flag‑lowering ceremonies. And during big holidays we came to see the flower displays. Every time we visited the National Museum, we would take one more look at this square.
It was the imperial court square back then — officials would pass through here to attend grand ceremonies. And today, it is still one of China's most important places. Chairman Mao announced the founding of the People's Republic of China from Tiananmen Gate. Every year, the National People's Congress is held in the Great Hall of the People, and the deputies walk across this square. Important military parades and state events are also held here.
